Bredonborough Back from London Yesterday

20.46

Bredonborough.

Back from London. Yesterday, socialising with chums; this morning, recording with Eno.

It was my proud boast, returning from the last session, that working with Brian I play less notes per minute than any competent guitarist I know. But today Terence Ironmonger had me working hard & fast with lots of fun & laughter.

This evening, an e-flurry dealing with stuff; and good questions from Crafties. Here are two questions from GC diaries with two brief, possible answers --

Q. What is boredom?
A. The result of a passive inner life.

Q. how do I increase my sensibility?
A. Find a pointed stick and sit on it.

From a response to a third question, contained in an intelligent direct communication --

vocation is before we are born. perhaps, it's why we are born.

vocation is a kind of knowing that, until our maturity, doesn't have a construct through which to operate. we are born and create a suitable construct by developing & blending a range of energies, some subtle & some less so. this is all allowed for ahead of time, simply by the natural process of life & living (cf JGB's little book Energies) but is subject to (JGB again) hazard. things can go wrong.

it's something like, knowing that we know but not having knowledge. the vehicle through which to know is the presence (energetic field) that we develop while in a living body: the range of skills & learning that we acquire through family life, education & life experience. hence the importance of good family & education - otherwise our vocation doesn't get the instrument to fully serve it. so, we do the best we can, and the refining never stops.

qualities of vocational status: journeyman, professional, master, genius (please forgive the gendering!).

different situations in life trigger our recognition of vocation. some calling-out is a calling-on-the-way to recognising the specific of the calling... this is where there is a resonance on the same frequency, but it belongs in a different tune. and yes, GC is a set-up. part of it is based on what has been before, part of it is novel, part of it is universal, part of it is specific. you could put this up on a tetrad...

novel

specific ....... universal

tradition

but it's friday evening, i'm tired, and this could be a book! so a brief response for now...

This follows a question from the same correspondent two days before, with an even shorter, and clearly unsatisfactory, answer --

Q: I keep telling you I'm called and don't understand why or how - and you don't say a word about that aspect?
A: what's to say?
